Fatimah: True Justice Is Not Found in a Courtroom’s Sentence
Meet Fatimah:
I am a policy professional and strategist dedicated to leading legislative advocacy and reform in the Virginia General Assembly. As a marketing and web manager, I am proud of my work as the Virginia State Representative for Survivors4JusticeReform, where I bridge the gap between survivor advocacy and restorative justice. I am particularly honored to lead the "Beyond the Gates" campaign and develop healing-centered curricula for programs within jails and prisons along with RJ Diversion programs with The Life Unit Inc.
I am a survivor of sexual assault and domestic violence, and I stand for restorative and transformative justice because the traditional punitive system often fails to address the actual needs of those who have been harmed. My journey has shown me that true justice isn't found in a courtroom's sentence, but in the reclamation of personal power and the space to heal. I believe survivors deserve access to community practices because they provide a path to accountability that forces an acknowledgment of human consequences, rather than just legal ones. As a policy professional and strategist, I have seen how these practices can act as a bridge to true peace, allowing survivors to be heard without the dismissiveness often found in rigid legal structures. I am proud to lead efforts that prioritize healing-centered legislation, ensuring that survivors, who are not a monolith, have the agency to choose a path that honors their unique journey toward restoration. Together, we can build a system that values human dignity over punishment and transformation over retribution.
