Tabitha: Punishment Alone Does Not Create Healing or Safety

Meet Tabitha:

Mother of Mackenzie Anderson, who was murdered by her ex-partner with her small child present, at sentencing, a very small sentence of 15 years. We fought to have and change the legislation for NSW for min sentencing for DV murders to 25 years.

I stand for restorative/transformative justice because…

Punishment alone does not create healing, accountability or safety. Too often, survivors are harmed again by the systems that minimise violence, silence truth or fail to recognise their needs. I believe justice must centre survivors, honour their voices and create pathways for accountability that go beyond punishment toward repair and prevention. Restorative and transformative approaches matter because they ask not only what harm was done but what survivors need accountability can be meaningful and how communities can help stop violence before it continues. I stand for a justice response rooted in dignity, healing and the belief that survivors deserve more than to simply survive - they deserve to be heard, supported and safe.
